Carleton Place Nursery 2008 Clematis Collection
The Clematis is called by some "the most beautiful vine of all". Once again we are limited, in the Ottawa area, by our climate in terms of what flowering vines we can work with. However, the clematis is one that we can rely on. With the rich variety of colours available we in fact come to rely on it often in our landscapes.
Notes on Pruning:
When"hard pruning" is indicated the plant tends to bloom on new growth and pruning should be done in late winter or early spring. When we indicate 'prune back by half', the pruning and selecting should be done in late winter. When "limited pruning" is indicated then the plants tend to bloom on older wood and earlier in the season. Pruning on these should be done immediately after they flower.
Clematis Planting Instructions:
Choose a site that will receive at least 6 hours of sun daily. Plant in a rich, well drained soil with good lime content. Cover the crown of the plant with 12cm of soil, provide a stake or trellis and tie up. The roots of the clematis should be shaded.
Clematis Varieties for 2008
