Brighten up your home during the colder months by forcing bulbs indoors! Amaryllis and paperwhites are easy to grow and bring beautiful flowers into your home when the garden is sleeping.

Amaryllis

Amaryllis produces large, showy flowers in shades of red, pink, white and more.

How to grow:

  • Planting: Use a pot with drainage holes and well-draining potting soil. Leave the top third of the bulb above the soil.

  • Watering: Water lightly after planting, then water when the soil begins to dry.

  • Location: Place in a warm, bright spot.

  • Time to bloom: Usually 6–8 weeks after planting.

Waxed amaryllis bulbs

No soil required! These are a convenient, low-maintenance option. They don’t need a pot, soil or watering. Simply place the bulb in a bright spot and enjoy the flowers, typically within 4–8 weeks.

Paperwhites

Paperwhites produce clusters of fragrant white flowers and are especially easy to grow indoors.

How to grow:

  • Planting: Place bulbs, pointed ends up, in a shallow container filled with pebbles or plant them in potting soil.

  • Watering: For pebble-grown bulbs, keep the water level just below the bottom of the bulbs. For soil-grown bulbs, keep the soil lightly moist, not soggy.

  • Location: Place in a bright spot.

  • Time to bloom: Usually 3–6 weeks after planting.

Tips for Success

  • Choose firm, healthy bulbs.

  • Keep bulbs away from excessive heat.

  • Avoid overwatering soil-grown bulbs.

  • Plant bulbs at different times to enjoy flowers throughout the winter.

Bring a little colour and fragrance into your home and enjoy a taste of spring, even on the coldest winter days!
